MD/DC CHAPTER WINS THE ASTA OUTSTANDING CHAPTER AWARD FOR 2013

ASTA MD/DC Chapter won the ASTA Outstanding Chapter Award for 2013! This award was given by the ASTA National Office in recognition of our achievements this year. ASTA MD/DC Chapter President Daniel Levitov will accept this award on behalf of the chapter at the ASTA National Conference in Providence, Rhode Island, February 27 to March 2, 2013. Here are just some of the things your ASTA Chapter has done the past year:

•    We have implemented and awarded the first ASTA MD/DC Scholarship for Private Lessons for students in need. This is a bi-annual scholarship award to be given to students who have need of short-term financial assistance to allow them to continue their private study during a time of financial hardship. See more details here.

•    Our annual Fiddle Day was greatly expanded this year to a one-day alternative styles event: World On A String Workshop/Concert. This successful event drew on local and regional talent and attracted students and teachers from throughout the area. A full report on WOAS Day can be found here.

•    Our eNewsletter saw improvements such as the implementation of a Hotline with e-mail address and a phone number, to allow members to ask questions and make comments.

•    We have just gone to a new printer for our Stringendo publication, and have seen improved print quality and delivery time, which enhances the overall experience and provides a better product for our advertisers.

•    Our website now features a media kit which can help potential advertisers to see rates, and understand what advertising on our website and in Stringendo can do for them. You can download our media kit here.

•    We have agreed to adjudicate the Potter’s Instrument Awards, a nationwide program that awards instruments to students who demonstrate financial need, musical potential, and community involvement.

•    This year we will be participating in the MSMTA conference in January 2013, and there will be a specific conference track devoted to strings. We are hoping this paves the way to a truly collaborative conference down the line.

•    The Levine School of Music is a new Institutional Member of ASTA MD/DC Chapter.

•    We have revised our bylaws to allow us to form a budget committee and thus track our finances and plan for the future of our chapter.

•    Several of our members will be attending and presenting at the upcoming 2013 National Conference in Providence.
