Studio Teachers Meeting, September 2010

On September 13, 2010, Jody Gatwood, professor at Catholic University and just-retired concertmaster of the National Philharmonic after 25 years, spoke about the book “Drive” by Daniel Pink.

The occasion was the first Studio Teachers Meeting of the year, held at the home of Dorée Huneven. Sixteen teachers attended, and participated with Jody in a very stimulating discussion about motivation: carrot and stick or an internalized drive for mastery, autonomy, and purpose? The discussion continued over a potluck lunch.

Members are encouraged to read Jody’s published letter to the “Wall Street Journal” regarding education in Montgomery County Schools, offered here as a PDF file.
