Mark Wood “Electrify Your Strings” Workshop for Students and Students’ Concert, June 5, 2010

Former Trans-Siberian Orchestra electric violinist Mark Wood showed contemporary improvisational techniques to local students at Mark Wood’s Electrify Your Strings™ workshop and concert on Saturday, June 5, 2010, in Silver Spring, Maryland.

Sponsored by Bethesda-based Potter Violin Company, and the American String Teachers Association (ASTA) MD/DC Chapter, 60 local students and educators participated in the event. As a former “orchestra kid,” Wood travels the world inspiring middle and high school orchestra students to perform their best through popular music, in an effort to keep them engaged in the performance music industry after primary education.

Students howled, rumbled, and gyrated as they performed music by the likes of Ozzie Osbourne and shook the rafters of The Lutheran Church of St. Andrew, while their parents waved cell phones in the air to well-loved rock anthems. The energy and enthusiasm was breathtaking!
