CERTIFICATE NEWS

·         The Certificate Program for Strings is created and introduced in MD/DC chapter in 1997. First performance evaluations take place in 1998. Program is launched with success.

·          In recognition of Lya Stern’s leading role in creating, and setting up the Certificate Program, while chapter president, the National Executive Board presents her with the Citation for Exceptional Leadership and Merit Award 2000.  She also received the Service for Strings Award 1998 from ASTA MD/DC. The Certificate Program is presented at the ASTA with NSOA Studio Teachers' Forum at Bloomington, Indiana in 2001

NEWS

·         2005 A subcommittee of The National Committee on Studio Instruction is assigned to study the CPS for feasibility for nationwide adoption.

·         Additional states considering or planning to adopt the program: Nebraska, Michigan, Washington, Wisconsin, Idaho, Iowa.

·         New in 2003: Foundation levels for violin, viola and cello Completion of the levels 5-10 for cello, by a committee chaired by Jeffrey Solow, Temple University,  Philadelphia, PA

·         Florida starts evaluations in 2003.

·         During 2003 Hawaii, Florida and Oregon join the program

·         NJ (Leslie Webster, chair) and VA (Lynne Denig, chair) adopt the program and start conducting performance evaluation in 2002.Close to 150 students participate.

·         During 2002 in New Jersey, 100 students participate - see the New Jersey news.

·         First performance evaluations take place in 1998

·         MD/DC initiates the program in 1997
